Marine arrested for weapons in checked baggage

A North Carolina-based Marine was arrested at Logan Airport Sunday after airport screeners found an undeclared semiautomatic weapon, ammunition, and bomb-making materials in his checked baggage, The reports.

The Transportation Security Administration says it is “actively investigating” how the materials made it through the initial screening in Las Vegas.

spokeswoman Ann Davis says the items were discovered after baggage handlers inadvertently routed Marine Cpl.l Justin Reed’s to arriving baggage claim instead of onto his connecting flight.

Reed was charged with possession of an infernal machine and possession of a concealed weapon in a secure area of an airport, said Sergeant Michael Popovics, a , The Globe reports.
